Three weavers in Kanchipuram work our silks. A nine-yard bridal piece with a contrast korvai border and a brocaded pallu takes them three weeks — the same three weeks it took their grandfathers. We pay by the piece, in advance, and publish what we paid.

Why we started
We started NY Label because the saree trade hides its own best part. Ask a shop which loom a piece came off and you will get a shrug.
So we work the other way around. We buy directly from clusters in Kanchipuram, Varanasi, Chanderi and Bhagalpur, name the weaver on the label, and publish the count, the zari content and the finished weight of every piece.
It makes us slower and it makes us dearer than a powerloom copy. That is the trade, and we would make it again.
